Life Lamp is composed of three overlapping 3D printed layers. The most interior one generated from the sound of a fetal heart, the intermediate drawn from an adult, and the outermost from an elderly person. The data was used as parameters in software that drew them as lines of varied width and branching that resulted in the lamp. Physically interconnected as a rhizome, these layers generate a design that, in addition to illuminating an environment, invite us to reflect on how to make the most of this short, pulsing life we have.

Intent on changing the way we interact with our physical and virtual environments, Guto Requena uses digital technologies to blur the boundaries between design, architecture, and art. His studio carries out emotion-centered experiments with digital technologies, each with its own reflections on memory, culture and poetic narratives in different design scales: objects, spaces and cities.
